Eventful Days

Despite being an advocate of photography skills such as composition and lighting over the importance of the equipment, I do love getting new things. Earlier, in June, I shot an event. It was my biggest shoot to date, with a number of set shots and various graduates involved. It was an interesting experience. Beforehand I was pretty nervous as to whether I could manage to get all the required shots and not miss any out for certain individuals.

A few weeks prior to this event, I had twice nearly destroyed my camera, once when a water bottle leaked in my backpack and once when it nearly tumbled down a mountainside, only to stop at the last ledge before a cliff. This had led to me upgrading my equipment so that I had a backup.

Now of course, better gear doesn’t make you a better photographer, but when it came to this event, my new equipment (specifically my Nikon Z6 with Nikkor 50mm f/1.8) worked so well! When I came to review the images (a few of which are in the gallery below) I felt as if these new additions to my kit had really helped me achieve the results I was aiming for. This was added to when the client informed me that many of the graduates, as well as themselves, had been very happy with the photos.

So in this case, I was helped by being a bit of a gear nut.
